Dr. Tobias Gärtner moved to the Straubing branch of the Fraunhofer IGB as a scientist after completing his doctorate at the University of Regensburg in 2009. From the very beginning, he played a central role in setting up the BioCat project group as well as in establishing the field of chemical energy storage. At the same time, he built up the topic of metal recycling from residual materials in cooperation with the Schwandorf Waste Recycling Association. He was responsible for both the content and financial aspects of the projects. He has been CEO at ESy-Labs since 2018 and has been creatively shaping the development of ESy-Labs GmbH ever since.
After working in La Jolla (California) and at the Universities of Münster, Bonn and Mainz, Prof. Dr. Siegfried R. Waldvogel (CTO) has been Director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in Mülheim since 2023. He heads the Department of Electrosynthesis there. The team consists of 30-40 employees at the MPI CEC and other locations. In his portfolio of around 460 publications, he has published around 350 original papers, 20 reviews/highlights/book chapters and 60 patent applications on electroorganic synthesis and is therefore well known in the industry. He has unique expertise in screening of electroorganic transformations and their upscaling. He has been CTO at ESy-Labs since 2018 and is creatively shaping the development of ESy-Labs GmbH.
